Used QSC GX Series
Still current models as we speak, these amplifiers are perfect for many applications including touring front of house and monitors, rehearsal rooms, event spaces, churches and schools. A selection of used QSC GX3 (2 x 425 watts @4 ohms) and GX5 (2 x 700 watts @ ohms) models are available at roughly half the cost of new equivalents.
Sound quality of the amps is detailed and transparent with a solid, muscular bottom end and crystal clear higher frequencies.
Only thing we would point out about the GX Series is that the front grills have no filters, at least not on the models we've seen, so there is a potential for dust and debris to build up within the amplifier which may cause overheating, so regular internal cleaning is recommended. By a qualified person, naturally.
Not lightweight amps but not exactly heavy either, both models weigh in between 12 and 13kgs with a compact reduced depth of 257mm so can be mounted in 'shallow' type rack cases.
Used QSC PLX 02/04 Series.
PLX2 Series employ QSC's Powerlight technology to bring you high power amplifiers in very lightweight packages.
PLX2 04 models can drive loads down to 4 ohms whilst the 02 models can go down to 2 ohms. 04 models offer up to 900 watts output per channel into 4 ohms and weigh in at only 5.9kgs. The 02s go up to 1250 per channel at 4 ohms in packages weighing up to 9.5kgs.
Great for sound pros and freelancers looking for high quality, powerful amplifiers in lightweight packages to minimise crew costs, etc.
Applications include touring front-of-house and monitors as well as fixed installation although the weight advantages here are not applicable.
Only quite recently discontinued, these amps are well worth checking out on the pre-owned market and we usually have at least some models available from stock.
